Jake Javier was celebrating his last day of high school at his friend’s house when he hit his head at the bottom of a pool and found himself unable to move. Though his post grad life was completely different than what he had planned, he knew that his only option was to accept his situation and find the strength to push forward. Through his incredible story, he’ll share the importance of having a good perspective and the 3 things you need to focus on in order to see the silver linings in every situation.
Behind the Scenes
Jake Javier is a 23 year old from Danville, California who sustained a complete spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down in 2016. He spent the next year dedicated to recovery and regaining his independence before attending California Polytechnic State University to study Biomedical Engineering. He is now pursuing a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus in Neural Engineering at Duke University, where he is completing his first semester of classes and beginning his lab research regarding electrophysiology and the nervous system - a newfound passion after his extensive experience in a hospital setting.
