Are you in the midst of a mess? These days you’re in good company. The COVID-19 pandemic threw everyone into a pause with lots of fits and starts since. And it just doesn’t seem like it’s ever going to end.
As a result, you may not be where you want to be in life. But take heart. There’s a way forward.
It’s time to shift your mindset!
Best-selling author and filmmaker Cali Gilbert did just that. After earning her third college degree, a series of life events found Cali jobless, homeless, and alone. On paper she was a success. She even felt like she was on the right path. Yet she wasn’t anywhere close to where she imagined she’d be.
That’s when Cali decided the only thing to do was to shift her mindset. Her incredible journey from major setbacks to success holds 4 secrets for you, too:
- Start with intent
What do you want?
Your first step in shifting your mindset is clearly naming your goals.
Set aside some uninterrupted time to explore this idea. To get started, name 3 things you want. Here are some helpful prompts:
- What you want to do
- Where you want to live
- What you want to have
- Who you want to be
When you explore your goal through the lens of these areas, you’ll arrive at your intention. Once you’re clear on that, the shift can begin.
- Make it an adventure
It’s not hard to get caught up in the negative aspects of life. Whether you’re experiencing a setback or simply feel stuck, focusing on what’s not going well can distract you from the path forward.
While Cali was still homeless, she made a decision. She started to think about her struggle as an adventure instead of as a negative thing. This simple shift changed her outlook and welcomed opportunity. In fact, she wound up publishing her first book before she had a home of her own!
When you make your life circumstances an adventure, you’ll put out positive vibes into the world.
Those positive vibes will attract others to your life and doors will start to open.
- Don’t worry about the ‘how’
People often get stuck when they worry too much about how they’re going to meet their goal. Here’s the thing: if you think you can’t achieve it then you’ll never believe it.
The only way to make things happens in life is to believe they can!
When you find yourself struggling with the ‘how,’ practice pushing those thoughts aside. Instead, replace them with ‘when’ and go for it. When you do, you’ll be able to stay focused on your goal.
- Trust your intuition
There’s a lot of noise out there in the world and it’s certainly tempting to let it drown out your intention. But you have a secret weapon: your intuition.
Your intuition is that internal calling that speaks louder than everything else.
Turn that voice up! Let it guide you and, above all, trust that it’s leading you in the right direction.
Life is messy and if we can count on one thing it’s that it always will be. But the messes don’t have to keep you from your dreams. With the right mindset, you have the potential to stay your course no matter what may come.
