3 Steps to Making Your Mark on the World

Are you ready to share your passion with others? Whether it’s teaching an art class at the local community center or finally opening your own business, it can be daunting to press go.

But I’m here to tell you it’s worth it. After all, I’m celebrating a year of my podcast! My dream of helping others find inspiration for their journey through listening to experts’ own stories is now a reality.

But I didn’t get here alone. My success is due in large part to my award-winning podcast producer Michelle Abraham. Her advice for me was simple, and it worked. It can help you, too, make your mark on the world.

Here are Michelle’s top 3 tips for success:

1. Follow Your Interests

To date, Michelle has helped launch 223 podcasts. But at the start, she was just a listener. That’s right! Michelle found podcasts as a way to adjust to life as a new mother. They provided escape, guidance, inspiration, and so much more. So she decided to turn to her love of podcasts into a career.

You may know exactly what you want to do, or you may have more than one idea. Now is the time to follow your interests. Find the one thing that truly inspires you, that brings you joy, and explore how to share it with the world.

As you do so, be flexible. You may need try out your idea part time or as a hobby. You may also find, through trial and error, that the first interest you choose isn’t the one, or may be combined with another.

Either way, keep following that path and you’ll get where you’re meant to be.

2. Stick It Out

Next, it’s time to make a commitment. When I started working with Michelle, she encouraged me to show up consistently and commit to a substantial time frame.

For my podcast, this meant once a week for a year. At first, this seemed daunting. But I stuck to it and here we are!

For you this might mean signing a lease and opening on time. Or committing to a schedule even when better opportunities come along. When you stick to your word, whether it’s your opening hours or honoring contracts, you will build a loyal client base.

Make the time. Deliver on time. Do it all on a regular basis. The rewards will be worth it.

3. Reach Out

Sharing with your passion with the world is life-changing, but don’t make the mistake of trying to do it all on your own.

If you make the best chocolate chip cookie around, it may be time to try selling them. But it’s important that you know your role. Focus on what you’re good at and reach out to others for the rest. For example, you may be good with baking but bad with numbers. Hire a bookkeeper and spend your time perfecting your product.

It should be noted that the best resources may already be in your network. Don’t be shy about asking those in your circle for help or use their connections to find it.

4. It’s Worth It

Lastly, don’t get discouraged by doubts or negative thoughts. It can be easy to think your contribution won’t matter enough to put it out there. The reality is everyone’s dream is unique and they’re all worth sharing – even yours!
