3 Steps to Give Your Body an Emotional Detox

Lately, it seems like everyone is talking about their emotions: from what they feel to why they feel them to how they affect their day to day lives. But while our emotions are a hot topic, there’s still a lack of information on what to actually do when they get the best of us.

Toxic emotions can significantly impact your health, happiness, and overall quality of life.

Emotional detox coach and author Sherianna Boyle is living proof that a cleanse from harmful emotions is not only possible but necessary. She was poised to start a new book on that very subject when she went through her own personal crisis. The only way through it was to take her own advice. Today, she knows for sure it works.

If you’re ready to give your body an emotional detox, Sherianna has 3 steps to get started:

  1. Don’t rush it

Before anything else, it’s vital that you internalize one key fact: emotional detox is a process. It won’t happen overnight – it’s going to take time.

When Sherianna was faced with tough news in her personal life, she made the decision to give herself one year to regroup and heal before making future plans. This gave her the time she needed to find the right path forward.

Don’t rush the process and you’ll find your way, too.

  1. Listen

Strong emotions can make it difficult for us to pay attention to much else. However, now is the time to listen.

Listen to what the universe is saying to you. Think bigger. Get outside. Go to a museum. Or just take time to sit and hear what it has to say.

Listen to your inner voice. Find something that brings you clarity. This could be meditation, prayer, or breathing techniques. Clear your mind and let your true voice come through.

Listen to your body. Your body is a good barometer of how you’re feeling. Headaches, fatigue, digestive trouble and much more can be an indicator that you need to focus on a detox. As you do, you may notice your symptoms change along with it. From head to toe, let your body guide you.

When you listen, you will begin to let go of toxic emotions.

  1. Recognize your reactions

Sherianna believes that there is really just one emotion: love. The rest, like guilt, shame, sadness, and anger, are just your reactions. We all want to control our feelings, so we react.

Emotional detox teaches you to recognize your reactions. When you focus on how to react in a given situation, you can begin to change your behavior. At that point, you’ll be able to process your emotions in a healthy way and ultimately move towards healing.

Emotions play a valuable part of your overall well-being – for better and for worse. Learn to cleanse your body of toxic emotions and enjoy life to the fullest.
